Tremblay said initial investigation revealed the two men were swept into the water by a wave. The representative of the JRCC Lt.-Cmdr. Brian Owens said ground crews found the first man and managed to pull him ashore on the rocks. The second man boarded the Hare Bay Coast Guard boat, then boarded a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter, which took him to 12 Wing Shearwater, where he was taken to hospital by rescuers. The medical examiner’s office is investigating the incident.

The RCMP announced on Tuesday that the man who died was a 23-year-old from Dartmouth, New York, while the injured is a 26-year-old from Ontario. The representative of the RCMP of the Halifax Region Const. Guillaume Treble said initial investigation revealed the two men had been swept away by the waves. The crews searched the two men in the dark. The man from Ontario was located by the fire brigade near the shoreline and was rescued at 20:55. He was taken to hospital by ambulance. The crews of a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter, a Hercules aircraft, the Canadian Coast Guard Cutter Hare Bay, the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Earl Gray, the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary Angel 6, firefighters and fishing boats searched for the Dartmouth man until 9: 40 p.m., when found in the ocean. He was flown to Hare Bay and then boarded a Cormorant helicopter, which took him to 12 Wing Shearwater while search and rescue personnel provided first aid. He was pronounced dead at Shearwater. The medical examiner’s office is investigating the incident.
