11 News spoke with members of the boy’s family, who wished to remain anonymous, as the child fights for his life. The shooting took place Saturday night on two streets near Chelton and Astrozon on the southeast side of the city. A total of four people, including the 12-year-old, were shot. “I received a phone call that my brother had been shot,” a member of the boy’s family told 11 News. “All I could think about was … I started screaming no … just please … no.” Family members of two brothers who were shot say 11 Life’s lives have been turned upside down in recent days. “She is in critical condition,” the family member explained. “My 12-year-old brother was shot 9 times. [In the] face, neck, leg and everywhere. Just everywhere. It hurts so much. “ According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, the suspect fired several shots at a house shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday. The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Estevan Pacheco. Police added that someone in the house returned fire and Pacheco fled. Police then believe that someone who knew the victim in the first shot followed Pacheco and a few blocks away. Police learned that Pacheco opened fire again, hitting several people in the truck that followed him, including the 12-year-old boy and his brother, before Pacheco was hit by the truck. Family members say hearing what happened to their loved ones is devastating. “I just could not imagine it,” said the family member. “It did not seem real to me. It’s unbelievable. I was screaming, shouting and just remembering. I remember it was just a nightmare. It’s the worst thing that could ever happen.” The boys’ family also said they had contacted police a few weeks before the shooting asking for something to be done about the violence in the area.
