The girl is accused of robbery and assault on Monday with a broken hip on the woman in her building in Pelham Bay, near Roberts and Hobart Avenues, it was not immediately clear. Surveillance video taken earlier this week shows the woman struggling to keep the front door of her building closed, but the perpetrators managed to force her in. One grabs the woman’s purse, spins it and throws it to the ground, a fall that broke the woman’s hip. After falling, another suspect appears to be smiling at the camera. They pulled out the front door with her bag, which was about $ 50, and her wallet, along with a debit card and insurance cards inside, authorities said. A neighbor said he saw the woman on the ground and ran outside to help. “She was lying there. I said you’re fine and she said ‘No my hip hurts, my back hurts,’” said Benny Santiago, who has known the victim for more than a decade. She said she has a pet rabbit and likes spends time with people, including her son, Sean. Sean says his mom may never fully recover from the attack. “It is completely unreasonable and accidental for such a thing to happen. It is shocking and heartbreaking,” he said. “She likes to go out and hang out with her friends, she goes to a dance maybe once a month at a bar that has live music. She was out that night. She was wearing her dance shoes.” But now, his mother has a long way to go before she can recover and there is no guarantee that she will be able to dance – or even walk – as before. “He was someone who walked everywhere and helped everyone else. I don’t think he saw the rest of her life using a walker, which is a real possibility,” Sean said. Neighbors said they had identified one of the young assailants and said it was known to cause problems in the area. They said they had called police in the past and hoped the young woman would receive help – but also be held accountable for the violent attack. It was not clear if this was the “main assailant” that police said was now in custody. “Who does this? Who thinks it’s okay? And who’s thinking about it, so that three young people can join an older one?” Sean asked.
