At least two people have been killed in the storms. Pieces of hail the size of golf balls were reported Monday night in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. Georgia, South Carolina and Florida were hit by strong storms on Tuesday. In Pembroke, Georgia, a woman was killed Tuesday afternoon when her caravan was destroyed by a possible tornado. Two confirmed tornadoes struck early Tuesday in Texas, including one in Johnson County, near the city of Joshua, where one person was killed. Twenty-one tornadoes were recorded late Monday through Tuesday from Mississippi to South Carolina. One of the tornadoes confirmed by the radar caused damage to a structure and trees near Newton City, Mississippi and the I-2 motorway. In addition, officials in Allendale, South Carolina, told Savannah, Georgia, an ABC WJCL subsidiary, that three people had suffered non-life-threatening injuries after a possible tornado. Thousands are without power in the state of Washington as a big storm passed in the area, causing gusts of wind close to 81 mph. As this storm system moves eastward, wind and snow warnings are issued from the Rocky Mountains to the Plains with a high risk of fire from Texas to South Dakota. Red flag warnings have been issued for the plains where winds could blow up to 70 mph. California’s first big heat wave of the season is expected soon. Heat warnings were issued for Los Angeles and San Diego with strong wind warnings issued for the highlands. The heat wave will start on Wednesday with highs and lows in the mid-90s.
