The traffic intelligence service Inrix confirmed that the road was reopened with an update at 23:30 on Tuesday night. He said: “The A46 Leicester Western Bypass Southbound has reopened, previous accident investigation work between the A607 (Hobby Horse Island, Syston) and the A6 Loughborough Road (Wanlip).” A Leicester police statement released after the incident said: “Police were called at 3.50pm. today (April 12) on a report of a Black Honda Civic on its roof on Wanlip Road, near the junction with the A6. Police arrived at the scene, along with crews from the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and the East Midlands Ambulance Service. “After the initial investigations, it is believed that the car collided with the slippery road, but another car – a White Audi A3 – may also have been involved in the incident. The driver of the Civic was transported to Queen’s Medical Center by ambulance. Injuries its not believed to change lives or threaten life. “The two passengers of the car were transported to the Royal Hospital in Leicester with minor injuries. The driver of the Audi could not stop safely at the scene, but contacted the police a few minutes after the incident. He was not injured and is being treated. “An investigation is now under way to determine the full circumstances and moments that led to the collision. The A46 south of the Hobby Horse roundabout remains closed while police continue to investigate the scene.” DC Anita Rose, of the Force’s Serious Collision Research Unit, said: “We look forward to talking to anyone in the A46 area, between the Hobby Horse Roundabout and the A6 junction, who may have seen a black Honda Civic and white Audi A3 heading south towards M1. “If you witnessed the incident or the moments before the incident or have video from a camera that you think might be useful as part of the investigation, please contact us.” Anyone with information is requested to call 101, citing incident 417 on 12 April.
