The Manchester Evening News revealed three weeks ago Ten Hague was United’s preferred candidate to take over the summer and MEN It was reported in January that United are aiming to compromise with their next coach before the end of the season.
Ten Haag, 52, was interviewed by United two weeks ago and is set to become the club’s second Dutch coach, surpassing competition from Paris Saint-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino.  United insist they have not secured a “finished deal” with any coach.

Ajax and United enjoy a warm relationship and the Dutch champions had prepared for an approach to Ten Hague before United asked permission to speak with the former Utrecht coach. Ten Haag led Ajax to their first Eredivisie title in five years in 2019, the same year the club completed a domestic double and reached the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 1997. Ajax retained the title last season and aims to secure another double this season. Although United considered Spanish coach Luis Enrique and Seville’s Hulen Lopetegui, the process was essentially between Ten Hague and Pochettino, who wanted to lead United for the best part of the last four years. United have explored the possibility of signing Pochettino following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskj .r in November, encouraged by the Argentine’s willingness to change clubs in the middle of the season. However, sources said that PSG played hard and United were not ready to pay a compensation package of around 15 million pounds. Pochettino was approached by United at the beginning of last season, but they failed to make a formal offer and agreed to take over the former PSG team after 13 months without a job. Former Tottenham boss Pochettino is expected to leave PSG at the end of the current season, but the release clause in Ten Hague’s contract is a knockdown of 1.7 million pounds.
