Reader Tip: This story contains descriptions of rape and sexual assault. A woman who allegedly was sexually assaulted by four young men in a West Kelowna basement in 2018 called her mother shortly after the alleged assault, before calling 911. The complainant in the case, YW, continued her testimony in Kelowna court on Thursday. Brothers Christian and David Dupas, along with Kole Comin and Trevor Pereverzoff, are charged with sexual assault and unlawful incarceration, which resulted from an incident in June 2018 after a night of alcohol. During her testimony on Thursday, YW, whose identity is protected by a publication ban, said she remembers the four defendants raping each other twice at a time after waking up from the “black” drink. He said he repeatedly asked the men to stop and tried to get out of bed several times, but “they just pushed me back.” “I had no way of defending myself,” YW said, adding many times that she never consented to any sexual activity with any of the men. YW said the attack ended when Christian Dupas told her he had to leave as his girlfriend was on her way home. He testified Wednesday that Christian was “very hard on me.” “I said something similar that I hope will reject you because of what just happened to me,” YW testified. “[Christian] he pushed me out and locked the door behind me. I got in the taxi and went home. “I was just exhausted with what had just happened. “Everything did not seem to be true.” YW testified that she “slept for a while” and then called her mother. “She told me to call the RCMP and not take a shower or do anything … My mom also told me to make a rape kit,” YW said. YW called 911 and an ambulance took her to Kelowna General Hospital, where she was examined by a doctor and interviewed by Cpl. RCMP’s Meghan Foster. “I’m uncomfortable talking about it. [I was] “Anxious, scared, I’m not sure what will happen,” YW said. “It was really painful.” To add insult to injury, she also testified about how she was fired after she called and told them briefly about what had happened to her. “They just didn’t want me back because of what had happened, it sounded like I was making a story,” he said. Castanet does not identify the company, as this information could be used to identify YW Crown Prosecutor Patricia O’Neil asked YW if she had benefited financially in any way by making these allegations or if she had filed civil lawsuits against any of the defendants. YW said it did not have it. YW had connected with Comin on a dating app and had met him in person for the first time the night of the alleged attack. She testified about how Comin and Marcus’s friend got her after work on Saturday afternoon. The three of them went out for appetizers and drinks, before attending a party at West Kelowna’s house. YW said she did not know anyone at the party except Comin and Marcus she had just met, and there was only one other woman there. After drinking for a long time at the party, the group took a taxi to BNA Brewing, where they stayed for some time before returning home. YW testified Wednesday that it recalled seeing some people playing video games at West Kelowna’s home before being “killed.” She said she woke up to find herself naked, surrounded by four naked men. While she says that the four men raped her alternately, she testified on Thursday that Marcus, who does not face criminal charges, was in the room when the alleged attacks took place. “I asked him if he could help me and he refused,” YW said. “He just laughed.” Crown prosecutor O’Neil completed her immediate hearing at YW on Thursday morning, and the defense is expected to continue the controversial hearing until the rest of Thursday. However, the trial will not continue until Tuesday, due to the big weekend. The trial is set to last until the end of the month.
