That can change. As revealed by 9to5Mac, Apple may be preparing to release a new USB-C 35W dual-port power adapter, which will be new power and the first time Apple offers a multi-port adapter. Apple currently sells a 20W single-port adapter for iPhone and iPad and several newer and older MacBook chargers. According to a support document, the new plug will also have folding teeth like the MacBook plugs: Use the Apple 35W dual-port USB-C power adapter and a USB-C cable (not included) to charge your device. Plug a USB-C cable into any port on the power adapter, extend the electrical outlets (if needed), and then plug the power supply firmly into an electrical outlet. Make sure the socket is easily accessible for disconnection. Connect the other end of the cable to your device. A 35 W dual port charger would provide enough power to quickly charge an iPhone or iPad while charging another device, such as an AirPods case or Apple Watch. The 9to5Mac notes that the adapter will also support USB Power Delivery. What we do not know is how much the new adapter will cost. Apple’s 20W USN-C adapter retails for $ 19, while the 30 W USB-C adapter retails for $ 49. In a tweet, Ming-Chi Kuo confirmed the existence of the charger. He said the device is “approaching mass production” and expects Apple to sell 2-3 million of them. Apple is rumored to be making a lower power gallium nitride charger after the release of a GaN 140W charger for the 16-inch MacBook Pro, as shown above. A GaN 35W charger would probably be smaller and lighter than Apple’s current 20W adapter.
