Police were called to the city’s High Road late Wednesday night, where a 35-year-old man from Brentwood and a 17-year-old boy from Canvey were arrested after a car stopped on the road. The elderly man was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery as well as possession of cannabis and was released on bail until April 30. The boy will not face any other action. Witnesses in the street on Wednesday reported that armed police officers were screaming in the street with the road closed to traffic until 10 pm later that night. The incident is linked to an alleged armed robbery on April 3 in the village of Beauchamp Roding where a five-figure sum was stolen from the victim. Two other men were arrested in connection with the incident. A police spokesman said: “Two people were arrested on suspicion of robbery after a car was stopped on High Road, Benfleet, on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 6. He was released on bail until April 30. “A 17-year-old boy from Canvey has also been arrested, but he will not take further action. “Loughton CID detectives want to talk to anyone who may have been in the village between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and saw anything suspicious, and anyone who has a video camera or doorbell in the area that may be relevant should be contacted. ” They added: “Please mention the crime reference number 42/84037/22”. Local politicians were thrilled to hear about the incident, including Tom Skipp, a councilor for the Appleton wing on High Road. He said: “It is shocking to hear that.
