James said in a statement that the former president ignored the “very clear” order from New York Supreme Court Arthur Engoron to “comply with our summons and hand over documents to my office.” Engoron’s February order also required Trump and two of his adult children to sit in for political inquiries, but the case is pending in an appeals court. Trump and two of his children must be fired by New York Attorney General, according to judges “Instead of obeying a court order, Mr. Trump is trying to avoid it. “We are asking for the immediate intervention of the court because no one is above the law,” James said on Thursday. He asked Engoron to fine Trump $ 10,000 a day for his continued non-compliance, but did not seek to imprison him. In a 26-page motion filed by James’s office in Engoron, investigators said Trump ignored a judge’s March 31 deadline to provide summons documents issued in December. Trump “did not comply at all,” the proposal said. Instead, he sent a reply “raising objections to each of the eight requests for documents in the summons on grounds such as excessive scope, burden and lack of specificity.” James has repeatedly argued that Trump and his legal team were the cause of unwarranted delays in political research, hindering the ability of her research team to move forward. Her investigation is parallel to a criminal case she is handling with Manhattan Prosecutor Alvin Bragg (D). Both offices are trying to determine whether Trump or other Trump administration officials, including the former president’s adult children, violated the law by manipulating the value of assets to obtain tax benefits or favorable loan rates. Trump and his family denied any wrongdoing and rejected James’s investigation as politically motivated.
