FOX 17 crews watched Tuesday as concrete barricades entered the sidewalk outside police headquarters. The action comes 8 days after Lyoya was shot and killed near the intersection of Nelson Avenue and Griggs Street, and 4 days before the deadline set by you for posting a video of that shooting. According to a spokesman for the department, police do not anticipate problems, but are working with city’s event staff to ensure that any public events related to the Liogia shooting are peaceful. “Roadblocks are a precaution,” FOX 17 was quoted as saying. Several protests have already taken place over the Lyoya shooting. Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom told FOX17 Lioya ran from the officer and then fought with him when the officer caught up with him. Investigators say the officer shot Liogia during the fight. However, Lyoya’s family disputed that account. According to Lyoya’s father and the family’s interpreter, the video shown to them of the shooting shows the police officer shooting Lyoya in the back of the head while lying face down on the ground.
