BENITSIA, California – A four-fire fire struck the port of Benicia on Saturday near the Amports docks, prompting fire crews to take action and up to 100 spectators to go out and see the dark plumes.
The fire was reported at 1279 Bayshore Road at approximately 2:30 p.m. There is no immediate information on what caused the fire.
Despite the dramatic scene of the fire, Benicia firefighters said the wind conditions in the late afternoon were “favorable”. No construction was burnt and there was no threat to public health, firefighters said.
However, it may take days for the fire to go out, according to authorities.
The port of Benicia is located at the top of San Francisco Bay. SSA Marine provides contracting for car ferries in the private port.

Orange flames and dark clouds of smoke could be seen all over East Bay.
Bill Goodyear, who lives nearby, said it was the largest fire he had seen in 12 years.
He said a boat in the port had caught fire earlier and firefighters put it out. Later, a larger fire broke out in the harbor and Goodyear suspected that the coals from the first fire should not have been extinguished.
About 100 people had come out to see the flame, but Goodyear said police “chased them all away.”
The fire provoked a strong response and mutual assistance from the Vallejo, Contra Costa County Fairfield, Valero, Cordelia and American Canyon fire departments, as well as firefighting vessels from Oakland, San Francisco and the Concord Naval Weapons Station.
Meteorologists warned of a risk of fire at the weekend in areas of Northern California caused by strong winds and very low humidity.
The strongest winds were expected near San Francisco, with gusts of 60 mph possible in the mountains north and east of the city, the National Meteorological Service announced on Saturday.
Red flag warnings for increased fire risk are valid until 5 pm on Sunday.
