The first candidate for President Joe Biden’s Supreme Court, Ketanji Brown Jackson, was confirmed by a vote in the Senate. Having garnered the support of three Republican senators – Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski and Mitt Romney – she also received the support of all 50 Democrats, becoming the court’s first black female judge. The vote comes after a seven-week nomination process that has been strongly criticized by Republicans, who have focused on her alleged history of leniency against child sex offenders. This criticism in turn was widely rejected as a distortion of her previous decisions. Earlier, Parliament Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that she was positive about Covid-19, after appearing next to President Biden, Chuck Sumer and other high-ranking officials during the signing of the bill. Ms Pelosi’s diagnosis means that three of the top 10 people in the presidency line are currently known to be infected with the virus. The speaker’s group says it is asymptomatic at the moment. Meanwhile, at Thursday’s White House press conference, Jen Psaki rejected Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s plan to smuggle immigrants from the southern border to Washington, calling it an “advertising ploy.”

Biden welcomes UN kick-off of “international outcast” Russia by Human Rights Council
The White House released the following statement by President Joe Biden following a vote by UN member states on the expulsion of Russians from the UN Human Rights Council. I welcome the overwhelming vote today in the UN General Assembly on the launch of Russia by the UN Human Rights Council. This is an important step by the international community that further shows how Putin’s war made Russia an international outcast. The United States has worked closely with our Allies and partners around the world to lead this vote because Russia is committing blatant and systematic human rights abuses. Russian forces are committing war crimes. Russia has no seat in the Human Rights Council. Following today’s historic vote, Russia will not be able to participate in the work of the Council or disseminate its misinformation there, as the Council of Inquiry investigates human rights violations by Russia in Ukraine. The images we see of Bukha and other parts of Ukraine as Russian troops withdraw are frightening. The signs of people being raped, tortured, executed — in some cases desecrated — are an indignation of our common humanity. Russia’s lies do not match the indisputable evidence of what is happening in Ukraine. That is why nations in every region condemn Russia’s unprovoked and brutal attack on Ukraine and support the brave people of Ukraine in their struggle for freedom. And we will continue to work responsibly with nations around the world to gather evidence to hold Russia accountable for its atrocities, increase pressure on the Russian economy, and isolate Russia on the international stage. Chinese scientist sentenced to 2 years in prison for “espionage”
The Ministry of Justice has sentenced a Chinese national to more than two years in prison for “conspiracy to commit financial espionage”. Xiang Haitao, 44, who lived in Chesterfield, Missouri, pleaded guilty to the charge in January 2022. According to court documents, Xiang conspired to steal a trade secret from The Climate Corporation, an international company headquartered in St Louis, Missouri, for the benefit of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). “Xiang conspired to steal an important trade secret in order to gain an unfair advantage for himself and the DRC,” said Deputy Attorney General Matthew G Olsen of the Department of Justice’s Department of Homeland Security. “Victim companies have invested significant time and resources in developing this intellectual property. “Financial espionage is a serious crime that can threaten the competitive advantage of American companies, and the Department of Homeland Security is committed to holding anyone accountable for stealing trade secrets for the benefit of a foreign government.” Shweta Sharma8 April 2022 05:41 1649392200

White House rejects Covid risk for Biden after Pelosi meeting
The White House has dismissed concerns about Joe Biden’s risk of being attacked by Covid after meeting with Nancy Pelosi, who tested positive earlier on Thursday. “The way a close contact is defined is not arbitrary, it is not something made by the White House, it is the CDC guidelines and how they define it to be within six feet for a total of 15 minutes over a 24 hour period. “Said White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki. “It was not. All their interactions were available to the public, I think you saw them and that’s how this evaluation is done,” added Ms. Psaki. The two were at the White House, at times very close, before Ms. Pelosi came out positive during the Affordable Care Act, which was also attended by former President Barack Obama. Biden federal envoy confirms Covid vaccine in US court
The U.S. Court of Appeals on Thursday reinstated the executive order of President Joe Biden, which requires federal politicians to be vaccinated against the coronavirus. In what is considered a rare victory for the administration, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans overturned a lower court lawsuit that challenged the order. The appellate court has 17 active judges dominated by Republicans, including six Trump nominees. It was after U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Brown, who was appointed to the South Texas District Court by Donald Trump, issued a national injunction against the mandate in January by a 2-1 vote. “The order is seriously harming the public interest by thwarting efforts to reduce Covid-19 disruption to federal workplaces,” government lawyers said in court records.
