Big White Ski Resort is officially closed for the rest of the winter season. Senior Vice President Michael Ballingall says Mother Nature has brought perfect conditions for the past weekend. “The snow came at the right time. We refreshed almost every weekend. We close here with 238cm. It snowed eightcm last Saturday, so for the people who were up there on Saturday and Sunday it was fantastic,” Ballingall said. Ballingall says the season was the most difficult in the history of resorts. “Everyone knows the province’s problems with floods and the supply chain and airlines. Christmas was as difficult for the economy in Big White as it was for everyone in BC. BC Family Day was really when things started. “come back for us and we saw a lot of people from Kato Sterea visiting the resort”, he added. The biggest obstacle was the lack of staff. “We maintained the resort with 50 percent of the normal staff load we had. Food and drink were damaged. The cleaning department was damaged. We usually transported between 160 and 170 housekeepers and I think we ended up with just over 20. We used some Kelowna cleaning company contracts when the time was right. ” Ballingall says outdoor activities went smoothly. “The actual operation of the resort’s natural factory, so the ski patrol and our care unit and are lift operators – this unit worked well. For no other reason than the team members like to be outside. This is a very “It ran to the low 90 percent of staff normally.” Nearly 480 staff will leave the mountain in the next 72 hours. Big White will reopen for its summer season on June 3.
