Kevin Yard was beaten by human rights defender Sandeep Singh during a nomination vote on Thursday.
Yarde won the Brampton ride in 2018, and became the first Black MPP in the Peel area. He currently serves as a critic of the NDP for car insurance.
“I want to thank Kevin Yarde for his years of service to Brampton North. I know Sandeep will continue to hold the NDP record for the best for Brampton,” said NDP Ontario leader Andrea Horwath. statement.
Singh, who previously served as marketing director for an immigration consulting firm, said he was looking forward to continuing “the good work Kevin Yarde has done in Brampton North”.
“Brampton healthcare is hanging by a thread, drivers are suffering from car insurance companies and families are being pushed by skyrocketing prices for everything from housing to gas. Families in Brampton are worth better than more defunct liberal “We can change all that, and with Andrea Horwath’s New Democrats, we will change that,” said Doug.
It is unusual for an incumbent MPP to go through a race. The NDP had said that the party rules allow it to be questioned whether there is another candidate with the criteria.
Former MPP Harinder Malhi, who lost to Yarde in 2018, will be running for the Ontario Liberal Party in Brampton. The Progressive Conservative Party, meanwhile, has used Graham McGregor, who has worked for the county government, to turn blue.
