CCTV shows the shocking incident, which started after the elderly woman parked her blue Hyundai outside the Booker Avenue Post Office on Holmefield Road, in Allerton yesterday at 10.05 a.m. The driver seems to leave the car for a while and cross the sidewalk to send a letter. As he walks back to the vehicle, a man dressed in dark clothes climbs into the driver’s seat. The woman rushes back to the Hyundai, opens the car door and arrives inside to confront the thief. At this point the car reverses, dragging the woman along the gutter and under the driver’s door. Merseyside police were called to the scene, but despite a search of the area, the vehicle could not be located. The victim did not report any injuries. Police are now appealing to witness the shocking incident. Inspector Paul Rannard said: “Theft of any vehicle is a heinous crime that has the potential to leave the rightful owner without the means to go to work, shop and enjoy his daily life. “Fortunately the victim was not injured during this incident and we know the video is circulating on the internet. I know that the vast majority of people in our community will be frightened when they watch it and I urge them to help trace the culprit so we can to bring him to justice. “Anyone who was in the Booker Avenue area yesterday morning and saw something or has any information, please let us know.
