A silver Land Rover was traveling along the road to Orrell Road when it hit three pedestrians on the sidewalk near a pub, police said. The driver fled.
A woman – 40 years old – was taken to hospital but died tragically. The other two male pedestrians were seriously injured.

Two people were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The police remain on the scene this morning (Saturday) with the road closed.
PC Oliver Batty, of the GMP Serious Conflict Research Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the woman’s family, who are understandably devastated by the circumstances in which their loved one died. research on the conditions and the road has been closed for some time while we conducted a series of surveys.
“We are happy to hear from anyone who may have information or video from a dashboard camera that can help with our research and give the woman’s family the answers they deserve. In particular, anyone who may have seen a silver Land Rover The Freelander in the area of Ormskirk Road in the minutes before this incident is invited to contact us.
