Jean and 11 other members of the UCP filed a notice of disagreement with the UCP’s arbitration panel on March 28, five days after it was announced that Premier Jason Kenney’s leadership appraisal would be put to a vote by mail. “Due to political games, this process has been going on for too long. “It’s time to let the members vote,” he said in a statement Friday. “I’m sure that if the voting process is fair, Jason Kenney will not get a survivable number from this voter list.” The story goes on under the ad

Jean has previously expressed concern about the voter list, claiming that there are thousands of people on the list who have not paid for their subscriptions. On Friday, however, Jean said he was confident most of the people on the list were legal members after examining the details of the voter list provided by the party as part of the arbitration process. He and the other members decided to withdraw their complaint based on the information, as well as the possibility that the continuation of the arbitration would lead to a delayed process of leadership review. “This list has problems. “I believe there are thousands of people on the list who have not paid for their own subscriptions,” he said. “But I also know that about 54,000 of the 58,500 are either long-term members or have purchased their subscriptions with their own personal credit cards.” Trending Stories

Samantha Steinke, president of the Central Peace Notley UCP constituency, said she was not happy about the decision. She is one of 33 club presidents to write a letter to the UCP board outlining the options for retaining the Red Deer vote. “Are we really relying on the fact that citizens’ ballots arrive there on time? Or not get lost in the mail? ” Steinke asked at a March 23 press conference. “It is disappointing to believe that three-quarters of the process has decided to take the carpet out from under the people and change the rules.”

The story goes on under the ad 770 CHQR contacted Kenney’s leadership review campaign for comment. Campaign spokesman Harrison Fleming responded with a statement saying “all of Mr Jean’s allegations were completely unsubstantiated or worthless, so it is reasonable that he finally decided to drop his complaint.” “We look forward to hearing from UCP members.” – With archives from Tom Vernon, Global News, and Dean Bennett, The Canadian Press © 2022 Global News, part of Corus Entertainment Inc.
