Tony Ikin, a father of two, was on his way to the Royal Easter Show, which is officially inaugurated by the Princess Royal on Saturday, when it was hit by rising floodwaters. The 68-year-old is said to have been a well-known and respected dog breeder and judge, whom his friend Robert Zamit described as a “kind soul” who “would help everyone”. Mr Zammit told Australia’s Nine News that Ikin “loved his dogs” and was a “kind man”. “Tony was not the person to take the risk,” he added. “He left home to come to the Royal Easter Show early, it would have been dark. “He must have thought not very deeply.” Picture: Princess Anna visits the Royal Easter Salon in Sydney, which was to be attended by Mr. Ikin Mr Ikin’s body was found in his van Friday morning in Cobbitty, about 43 miles southwest of Sydney Central Business District, New South Wales police said. Australia declared a state of emergency last month following floods that swept across the country, killing dozens. An investigation into the circumstances of Mr Ikin’s death is ongoing and a report will be prepared for the medical examiner.
