The suspect, Jeremiah Ryan, is only 17 years old. Police say the teenager had no criminal record when he opened fire Friday afternoon shortly after leaving school. He was arrested at his home on Saturday. Three teenagers were shot on the corner of St. Ann and East 156th Street, including 16-year-old Angellyh Yambo, who died of her injuries. Police say the weapon used was a so-called ghost weapon, an undetectable firearm made from a kit that you can buy online. Today, the Biden government unveils a new rule that extends the definition of firearms to include ghost weapons. The new rule will also require gun dealers who take these non-serial weapons to enter a serial number so that they can be located. “Right now, when you buy these pieces, you can buy the barrel, the stock, the trigger without the serial numbers and without requiring the seller to do a history check,” said New York Sen. Chuck Schumer. “There is a ghost arms epidemic now in New York and Long Island and we have to do something to stop it.” Meanwhile, Jeremiah Ryan is expected to stand trial on Monday. He will be charged with murder as an adult. Angellyh Yambo’s funeral is scheduled for Tuesday. Yambo’s sad mother spoke on Saturday. “I sent my daughter to get an education and she died,” said Janelli Henriquez.
