A manhunt is now under way for a gunman wearing a gas mask and MTA clothing, who opened fire and detonated explosive devices in a Brooklyn subway during rush hour Tuesday morning. At least 16 people were injured – at least eight of them shot – in the shocking incident that unfolded around 8:30 a.m. at 36th Street and Fourth Avenue in Sunset Park as crowds of New Yorkers went to work in Manhattan. The FDNY said it was called in on reports of smoke at the station and found several people suffering from gunshot wounds. The extent of the victims’ injuries remains unclear, but two of the victims of the shootings are said to be seriously injured. It is not clear if the shooting was accidental or targeted. Police are now looking for a suspect described as a black man, wearing a gas mask, MTA uniform and holding a bag of books. Officials initially said unexploded ordnance had been found, but by 10 a.m., the NYPD said there were no active explosive devices at the scene. People are advised to stay away from the area.
