An “atmospheric river” brought several days of extreme rainfall in BC. in November, causing widespread flooding, destroying several of the county’s major highways and large tracts of land in the Abbotsford, Merritt, Princeton and Tulameen areas. The BC Spill Response posted on Twitter on Friday an update on some of the large chunks of debris removed from BC rivers last week. Many vehicles, a building and a garage were removed from the Nicola River this week, while an excavator and timber debris were removed from the Thompson River. Meanwhile, the county continues drone reconnaissance over the Coldwater River, looking for more debris. Debris removal began on the Similkameen and Tulameen waterways on April 3, while vehicles and a building were also removed from the Coquihalla River last week. It is not clear how long the cleaning efforts are expected to last.
