The Calgary Police Commission said Monday that Carra had voluntarily resigned from her role in the political watchdog while dealing with a “personal matter”. According to a Calgary police statement, officers were informed of a recent incident involving a member of the public and an elected official. Police did not mention the nature of the incident. “In the interests of transparency and best practice, we have contacted the Edmonton Police Department to request an independent inquiry into the circumstances,” the CPS said. In a message to Postmedia, Carra said he could not confirm or comment on anything at this time, but intends to talk about it soon. The police committee said that Carra’s position is reserved for him, but he will not be able to attend any meetings or have access to the committee’s confidential information until the situation is resolved. They would not provide more details out of respect for Carra privacy. CTV reported that Carra was being investigated for an alleged road rage and property damage. Carra was appointed to the Calgary Police Commission after his re-election in October 2021. The councilor was first elected to represent Section 9 in 2010. [email protected]: @BabychStephanie
