Southern California’s Knott’s Berry Farm amusement park will begin implementing an escort policy for underage guests after a series of fights between park guests over the weekend led to the facility’s early closure.
Starting Friday, guests 17 and under will have to have a companion at least 21 years old to be admitted to the park. The attendant must present a valid ID with date of birth, the park said.
“One chaperone may accompany no more than three guests age 17 or younger per day,” the policy states. “Attendants must accompany their party upon entry, remain with their party at all times during their visit to the park, and be available by phone throughout their stay.”
The requirement will apply to Knott’s Berry Farm and Knott’s Soak City, its water park located across from Central Park.

The new policy comes days after the park was forced to close early after multiple brawls on Sunday caused panic among visitors. The Buena Park Police Department said reports of shots fired were not true.
Videos on social media showed park security tackling groups of youths to break up a fight. Additional footage showed a young man being punched multiple times on the sidewalk by another parkgoer.
The Orange County Fire Authority said three people were injured in the clashes. Two people were transported to area hospitals, while the third refused to be taken in for additional medical treatment.
