Photo: Google Street View Downtown Eastside of Vancouver The Canada Post reports that it has temporarily suspended mail delivery to two blocks in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside neighborhood due to security concerns. Representative Valérie Chartrand said in a statement that the federal Crown Corporation was working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and find a long-term solution “that would ensure the well-being of our employees”. He says affected customers on East Hastings Street have been notified and their mail is available for pick-up from a Canada Post facility about two miles away. The statement said Canada Post is responsible for ensuring that its distributors, who visit hundreds of addresses daily, can do their job safely. The Canada Post did not specify the exact nature of the security concerns. In a statement, Vancouver Mayor Kennedy Stewart says the city is working with the Canada Post to ensure mail delivery continues and is also working to help vulnerable Downtown Eastside residents.
