The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said the crew was called in to pick up chemical odors at an address in Cabot Square. A combination of as yet unknown chemicals caused high levels of fumes and vapors in the building, the service said. A man was treated on the spot by crews from the London Ambulance Service, he added. Images from the scene show at least four fire trucks attempting the incident. A “no-go zone” fence has been put in place as firefighters carry out checks. Dave Hill, commander of the station at the scene, said: “Crews swept the building and found high measurements. “Firefighters have ventilated the building and are monitoring the level of fumes. “We have evacuated about 900 people from the building for precautionary reasons.” The Brigade was called on 09.08 and the incident continues. Two fire engines from Millwall and Poplar fire stations and two fire rescue units from Bethnal Green and Euston fire stations are at the scene. The LFB dealt with a similar incident late last month following a chlorine leak at the Aquatics Center at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford. Due to a chemical reaction, a large amount of chlorine gas was released, the LFB said at the time. Several patients were treated at the scene. About 200 people were evacuated from the center. Fire crews used fans to ventilate the premises. “Once low levels of detection equipment were reported, we handed over the center back to the building owners,” LFB said.
