The “big clash” took place around 8:18 p.m. at the intersection of Barton Springs Street and Sterzing Street where some food trucks were parked, Christin Stedman, Austin-Travis County EMS public information officer, told reporters at the scene. The collision was a “T-bone type collision” that forced one of the vehicles “into a group of pedestrians near food trucks,” Stedman said. All 11 victims were adults, he said. Nine patients were taken to local hospitals and two others refused medical treatment or transportation and were removed from the scene. Two victims were potentially life-threatening. Two others were seriously injured and five were non-life-threatening. Three patients were transferred to Dell Seton Medical Center and six to South Austin Medical Center. Both drivers are cooperating with the investigation, police said. One of the drivers was among those taken to hospital. It is not clear if the food truck was operating at the time of the collision, however police said people were standing in front of the truck. Police could not immediately confirm what led to the incident, but said an investigation was under way.
