OTAWA – At least two of the Conservative Party’s leading candidates say they will abide by childcare agreements signed between the Liberal federal government and the provinces. Those vying to become Tory leaders must take a stand on Prime Minister Justin Trinto’s promise to provide Canadians with $ 10 a day childcare. Earlier in the day, Quebec’s former prime minister, Jean Charest, vowed that a conservative government led by him would uphold existing childcare agreements. In addition, it has pledged to cut childcare costs for up to 75 per cent of low-income families without a subsidized daycare center and extend paternity leave benefits to two years.
