The board of NL911 is rolling out to the government and one of the challenges they are trying to address is citizen statements. Justice and Public Safety Secretary John Hogan says about 50 percent of people in the county do not have a city address. Hogan says the CRTC has a working group on citizen management, noting that technology will play a role in addressing concerns. He says they want to make sure emergency responders know exactly where to go and a lack of information on citizens’ addresses can prevent that. However, he says the goal of the next-generation 911 system is to meet these challenges. According to the government, they are not aware of any cases where confusion over citizens’ addresses has affected emergency response in this province. As part of the new legislation 911, municipalities will have to provide the government with information on residential, commercial and other real estate in their city.
