The budget does not include an increase in taxes or fees, the abolition of the 15 percent retail tax on one-year home insurance and a 50 percent reduction in one-year vehicle registration.
The home insurance break also applies to tenant insurance, says Secretary Coady. The county announced a series of cost-of-living measures last month, but many felt they had not gone far enough and expected to hear more on the budget. That included expectations around breaks to offset rising costs for fuel and groceries – but it was not there.
Coady argues that there is a “huge number” of things the government is doing to put money in people’s pockets. He says that when you add it all up, it amounts to about $ 140 million, including a 10 percent increase in income supplement and seniority allowance. Metrobus cards are now being extended to the elderly and young at risk. Coady admits she would like to do more and hopes the government can increase support in this area. Change is up in the air is the theme of this year’s provincial budget, but many are wondering what those changes might be. Journalists asked Finance Minister Siobhan Coady what “change” means. He says that it concerns the differences and the improvements that are made in the fiscal situation of the province. Finance Minister Siobhan Coady says federal funding has not been included in the county budget, which was cut a few hours before the Ottawa budget. Coady used the recently announced money for the provinces to help address delays in surgery as an example. He says $ 27 million is not in the county budget. That, he says, will make fall financial reporting “even better.” The ministers of Finance and Industry, Energy and Technology will go before the media today to talk about the provincial and federal budgets. Siobhan Coady and Andrew Parsons will speak at the Alt Hotel in St. Louis. John’s at 11 a.m. VOCM News will be there.
