Coronavirus in Canada
In Ontario, residents aged 60 and over will be eligible for a fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccine from Thursday. The province reports 1,074 people in hospitals and 168 in the intensive care unit, a slight decrease from Tuesday. Today at Quebec, people aged 70 and over became eligible for a fourth installment, as healthcare professionals note that they expect an increase in hospitalizations in the province over the next two weeks. Recent releases of telephone calls made to the Quebec government health line from March 2020 also revealed the despair of the owners of a long-term care home as COVID-19 hit their store. BC now offers a fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccine to the elderly, starting with residents of long-term care and assisted living. Manitoba extends eligibility requirements for second booster doses. Eligible people include residents of personal care homes and concentration camps, as well as people aged 70 and over. First Nations, Inuit and Metis 50 years and older are also eligible. Nunavut announced the lifting of the remaining COVID-19 health measures next Monday, including the mandate of the mask and isolation for those who have a positive effect.
Experts are worried about the recent movements of the provinces Lifting COVID-19 health protection measures could send the wrong message to people about where we are in the pandemic and the need for an amplifier.
While governments urged people to assess their own level of risk in terms of coverage, Dr. Kelly Grindrod, an associate professor in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Waterloo, says the number of people going to public places without masks suggests that many do not have a good idea of how widespread COVID-19 is right now. Dr Grindrod says the intake for third installments was less than ideal. More than 89 percent of Canadian adults have two doses of COVID-19 vaccine, but only 56.8 percent of the same group have received a third dose.
