The longtime host of “The Late Show with David Letterman”, who resigned in 2015, thanked hospital staff in a video Thursday in which he revealed that he was visiting Providence with his son last August when fell on the sidewalk, hit his head and fell unconscious.
“The ambulance comes and picks me up.  “They took me and my son in the ambulance to the emergency room and stabbed me, they did an X-ray on my head, they did an CT scan, they rubbed me,” says Letterman, 74, in about a minute.  great video posted on YouTube by Lifespan, the hospital’s parent company.
Someone brushed their teeth and got fresh clothes, he said.
He says the experience was scary at the time, but the staff helped him.
“So I can not thank you enough for taking the time for me,” he concluded.  “So I have nothing but wonderful things to say and think about the Rhode Island hospital and the emergency department.”
