The police officer, who recognized the driver, tried to stop the car as he turned onto Seymour Street. The Toyota continued slowly and drove over a curb as police tried to stop it. “Fearing danger to the public, police stopped their efforts to stop the vehicle, fearing that the driver could increase his speed and lead erratically in an attempt to avoid arrest,” the spokeswoman said in a statement. of Kamloops RCMP, Const. Crystal Evelyn. .
Although the chase was stopped, an off-duty officer watched the vehicle hit a light pole and a building in Lansdowne and Avenue 3 before stopping on the road.
Police officers then appeared to surround the vehicle and blocked the traffic as the driver tried to move the car again.
“The man resisted arrest, screamed, sweated and was found to have suspected fentanyl,” Evelyn said. “Concerned that he was experiencing excited delirium, the police took the man to the hospital for evaluation, to be returned to the police after any required medical treatment.”
The driver is expected to face several charges once the investigation is completed, the RCMP said.
