He was training in Florida with Steelers teammates. “I am devastated and have no words for the unfortunate death of Dwayne Huskins,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said in a statement. “He quickly became a member of our Steelers family upon his arrival in Pittsburgh and was one of our hardest workers, both on the pitch and in our community. “Dwayne was a great teammate, but even more so a terrific friend to so many. I’m really devastated. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Kalabrya, and his entire family at this difficult time.” Haskins entered the NFL in 2019 after Washington’s governors selected him 15th overall. He struggled for the first two seasons after his arrival with fanfares and Washington released him before the end of the 2020 campaign. “We are devastated to learn of the tragic death of Dwayne Haskins Jr.,” Commanders owners Dan and Tara Snyder said in a statement. “He was a young man with enormous potential who had a contagious personality. “To say we are cracked is a disgrace. Our hearts and prayers are with Dwayne’s family and all who knew and loved him.” The Ohio State product signed with the Steelers after his departure from Washington and was their third general in 2021. Pittsburgh signed him as a free agent with limited access, arranging him to return in 2022.
