The Halifax RCMP says it received reports of shootings in North Preston and East Preston – neighboring communities about 20 miles east of Halifax – around 6:55 p.m.
RCMP Cpl.  Chris Marshall told CTV News that no one was injured in the shooting.
One suspect was arrested shortly afterwards, but police said two others – both men – escaped to a wooded area behind Brian Street in East Preston.  Police said they believed the men were armed.

Police now say a second suspect has been arrested. Marshall says other gunshots were heard in East Preston’s Bell Street at the time of the arrest. Police are still searching for “at least one more” suspect in connection with the shootings. Marshall says he expects a large police presence in the communities of Preston and Cherry Brook for a long time. Police say residents must stay indoors, turn off their lights and lock their doors as police search the area. Marshall says some residents may have to evacuate their homes, depending on how the situation develops. An emergency alert was issued at 8:12 a.m., alerting residents to shootings in North Preston and East Preston and warning that two suspects were free. An emergency alarm was issued in Nova Scotia on 8 April 2022. Anyone who locates the suspect should call 911 immediately. Police say he may be armed and should not be approached.
