Large areas of Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario are under heat warnings, with daytime temperatures in the 30s.
The Met Office says there won’t be much relief when the sun goes down, with overnight temperatures not forecast to drop much below 20C.
Today’s heat wave is expected to last several days, with cooler weather expected to finally arrive Sunday afternoon.
On the West Coast, British Columbia’s Ministry of Public Safety has warned of possible heat warnings starting as early as Saturday and continuing into next week.
Heat warnings are issued when very high temperatures or humidity conditions are expected to pose an increased risk of heat illness, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
