The RAC said travelers fleeing London would be forced to take to the streets at a time when shortages led to reports of looting in some courtyards and forced drivers in the South to queue outside service stations.
“People still have to travel to see more cars on the road,” said one spokesman.
The agency expects 21.5 million leisure trips by car this weekend, the highest number for Easter holidays since the RAC began tracking motorists’ plans in 2014.
The news came as Just Stop Oil activists targeted fuel depots across the South, including Hertfordshire, Essex and Warwickshire, over the weekend, causing drivers to queue for petrol and close some courtyards.
