The British family of a fighter who fought in Ukraine, now spoke of their horror after they saw their relationship hit in the middle of reports that he had been captured by the Russians. Aiden Aslin, from Newark-on-Trent in Nottinghamshire, appears to have been photographed beaten and handcuffed after handing over his unit to Russian troops. The fighter, who joined the Ukrainian army in 2018, posted on his Twitter account on April 12 that there was “no food or ammunition left” in his unit and said they had been forced to surrender. Now his family responded “shocked” to a photo posted on the Internet by pro-Russian social media accounts that appeared to show a man stuck in a chair with facial injuries. Nathan Wood’s brother, 25, told MailOnline: “It’s so shocking for our family to see Aiden in this situation. What did the Russians do to him? He looks awful, completely exhausted. His face is drained of color. How did he get such a big red mark on his forehead? It looks like he was hit with a butt. “But how horrible it is to see him in such a state, it shows that he is still alive and that gives us as a family a little relief. I will appeal again to the Russians to treat him well and humanely. “ He added: “There is no doubt now that he has been arrested. “I hoped the discussion about handing over his unit was just a smokescreen, but the pictures now clearly show that he is in Russian captivity.” His mother told the newspaper: “It’s Aiden I can not deny. “It’s him … It already looks like he was beaten.” It comes after the Telegraph reported in one of the captions of the photos on social media: “Aiden Aslin. Britain, Nottingham. English mercenary who fought on the side of the Nazis in Mariupol. Many lost it, but we found it. An interesting interview is coming soon. “ A friend of Mr. Aslin told the newspaper that the photo really looks like him and looks like one of his tattoo insignia. Mr. Aslin’s unit was defending the southern city of Mariupol, which has been heavily bombed by Russian troops. On Tuesday, the 28-year-old tweeted: “48 days have passed, we did everything we could to defend Mariupol, but we have no choice but to surrender to Russian forces.” Ang Wood’s mother told the BBC that her son had no choice but to surrender. “He called me and said they had no weapons to fight,” he said. “I love my son, he’s my hero – they had a hell of a fight.” He added: “Boris [Johnson] need to get [Vladimir] “Putin down.” The soldier’s friends have expressed fears of possible ill-treatment by Russian forces following his capture. “From this point on, anything [bad] “What is happening to him is a war crime by the Russian forces,” his friend Brennan Phillips told The Times. “I’m worried that he will be tortured, I’m worried that he will be killed … That he will be distorted as he is a foreign mercenary or a member of a paramilitary organization. “They can use any excuse to abuse him. That’s what worries me the most. “ Russia claimed to have arrested about 1,000 members of Mr Ashlin’s brigade on Wednesday. But Ukraine’s Azov Regiment later released a video claiming that some members of the Marine Corps had successfully erupted. Mr Aslin has previously traveled to Syria to fight alongside the Kurdish armed forces against Islamic State between 2015 and 2016.
