The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said eight devices were deployed at the Hermitage Elementary School in Helensburg following multiple calls received shortly before 5am on Tuesday. No injuries were reported and SFRS said firefighters were making good progress in extinguishing the blaze, which broke out in a disused area on the school premises. The students and staff of the school, located on Argyle East Street in the city, are currently on their Easter break. A spokesman for Argyll and Bute Council said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is responding to a fire in the obsolete branch of the Hermitage Elementary School in Helensburgh. “Schools are currently on holiday. “We will continue to work with SFRS to manage this situation.” Scottish police have called on witnesses to show up and said the first signs were that the fire had started deliberately. A spokesman said: “Around 5.15 p.m. On Tuesday, April 12, 2022, SFRS contacted officers to monitor a report of a fire in the dilapidated building on East Argyle Street, Helensburgh. “Officers are working with partner services to determine the cause of the fire and we will encourage anyone who may have seen the incident or have information that may be related to the investigation to contact the Scottish Police at 101, giving the number incident 0362 of 12 April 2022. “We would also ask members of the public who may be in the area at the time to check any private CCTV footage or dashboard camera and contact the Scottish Police if they have relevant material that could assist in the investigation. us”.
