Irshad Begum, 80, was hit by a vehicle on Washwood Heath Road, Ward End, just before 4.40pm on Tuesday, April 5th.  The retiree died of her injuries shortly afterwards. 

Her family said she “always put a smile on other people’s faces”. In a moving tribute, loved ones said: “Our mother cared, loved and always had time for others. We would like to thank everyone for their love and support, please keep our beloved mother in your prayers.” West Midlands police said the car left the scene, but a 28-year-old man was arrested later that night after he showed up at a police station. Amaan Isa, from Erdington, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving while excluded and unsafe. He appeared before the Birmingham Magistrates’ Court this morning, Thursday, April 7. He was remanded in custody pending a May 5 court hearing.
