A man has been shot dead after killing five members of his family he had been holding hostage since last night. The attack took place in Douvres, a city in eastern France. Local media reported that the man in his twenties killed his father, stepmother and three siblings. According to information, the man had been trapped in a house with his family since about 11.30 pm yesterday. Le Progres said the victims were his father, who ran a construction company in Ain, his stepmother, originally from the Gironde, his 17-year-old sister, his half-brother, 15, and his half-sister, 5 years. Police were at the scene this morning and the attacker was shot dead by the GIGN (National Gendarmerie Intervention Group) before noon. The house is being sealed off as part of an investigation. The village has been rocked by the crime, with local bar and pizzeria La Babilliere saying they will close temporarily “due to the events”. His manager, called Tania, told Le Progres that many people were calling to try to find out what was going on “but we don’t know”.
