GMP officials deployed a helicopter after the car, believed to have been stolen in Oldham a few days earlier, was spotted near junction 19 of the M60 at about 9:35 p.m. Sunday (April 10). A patrol car chased the BMW towards Rochdale and then back towards Middleton before the police decided to call the chase. The vehicle was later picked up by the force aircraft, police said. Three men fled the scene, but were located and arrested shortly afterwards. Two of the men needed hospital treatment for what police described as “minor injuries”. A 20-year-old man is now in custody who was arrested on suspicion of burglary, dangerous driving and possession of an object with blades. The passengers of the other two vehicles involved in the collision were also taken to the hospital – two men and a woman. Their injuries are said to be minor. A GMP spokesman said: “Three men are in custody following the collision of a stolen car in Middleton. Police have located the suspect car – a BMW believed to have been stolen in Royton, Oldham on April 7 – near junction 19 of the M60 approximately 21:35 last night (April 10). “A GMP patrol followed the stolen car to Rochdale and then back to Middleton before the chase was stopped and picked up by a power helicopter. One person was rescued from one of the vehicles by the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. Firefighters and colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service picked up eight people at the scene before being taken to hospital.
