Residents at Bayview 60 Homes – located at 3800 Northeast 168th Street in North Miami – were forced to leave the building after the owner asked the city to take action after a recent inspection. The property owner hired Bronislaus P. Taurinski Structural Engineers for the inspection and there was a report referring to a deviation in the height of the “building floor tiles”. Built in 1972, the apartment building has been undergoing repairs since July 2021 to prepare for its 50-year re-certification inspection, according to NBC6. On Monday, residents were informed they had to leave the apartment. They managed to return to the property for their belongings on Tuesday morning. Men are seen moving furniture from the Bayview 60 Homes apartment building on April 5, 2022, in North Miami Beach, Florida. The move follows the evacuation of another apartment building in North Miami. Crestview Towers evacuated more than 300 residents in July 2021. A report indicated that the building was “structurally and electrically” unsafe. Bayview is located just three miles north of Champlain Towers South, a 12-storey condominium that partially collapsed in June 2021 in Surfside, Florida. The collapse killed 98 people and inspections revealed that the building was destabilized and in many breaches of living conditions.
