On April 3, the Belleview Police Department (BPD) received a call for a shooting at a home. When they arrived, they found 16-year-old Christopher Leroy Broad Jr., who had been shot. He was taken to a local hospital where he died, the BPD said in a Facebook post.
The medical examiner’s office said the cause of Broad’s death was a gunshot wound to the chest and the manner of death was reported as homicide, according to an affidavit.
During the shooting investigation, the BPD “discovered evidence” that 17-year-old Joshua Vining “shot and killed Broad.” Vining was arrested Thursday and charged with manslaughter with a firearm, the BPD said.
“Through the investigation, it was found that Winning and Brod were shooting at each other while wearing a vest containing a form of armor,” the BPD said in a statement. “Vining shot at Brodt while he was wearing the vest and they hit him.”
Police said when they arrived, they found Vining doing CPR on Broad, according to the probable cause.
A second teenager gave police misleading information about the incident and was accused of providing false information to law enforcement, the BPD said.
In the affidavit, police say a third teen told them that “the video recorded both shots using Snapchat on his iPhone,” saving the video of Vining shooting but deleting the video of Broad shooting. A technician managed to recover Broad’s shot, according to the affidavit.
Both Winning and the second teenager, who face charges of providing false information to law enforcement, are being charged as adults, police said.
CNN is unable to determine whether either has legal representation at this time and could not be reached for comment.
Vining released a $ 30,000 bond on April 8, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Inquiry Search website.
The second teenager charged was released on $ 1,000 bail on April 8, according to a county prisoner investigation.
Belleview is located approximately 65 miles northwest of Orlando.
