Police responded to Summit Avenue 15100 just before 1:30 p.m. for reports of an armed bank robbery at Bank of America, according to the Fontana Police Department. The agency reports that witnesses saw the suspect leave the bank and pass through the parking lot at Wendy’s restaurant and when the police arrived they answered, they confronted the suspect as he was leaving Wendy’s. At one point during the clash with police, a police officer was shot dead, seriously injuring the suspect, officials said. It is not clear what prompted the police to open fire. The suspect, who has not been identified, died on the spot. According to police, a pistol was found. “The suspect could have been taken hostage and that is something that worried the police when he actually entered the restaurant,” said Fontana police officer Daniel Romero. “We were very lucky in today’s incident. Everything went as it should. Any small thing that could change could have caused an innocent person to be injured.” No police officers were injured in the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
