Cheers July 19, 2022 | 16:20 PRINCE GEORGE — It is the most prolific form of cancer today according to Dermatologic Oncologist Dr. Harvey Lui. “Skin cancer is actually the most common type of cancer that occurs in humans. So it is now estimated that in British Columbia or Canada in general, one in five people is expected to get skin cancer at some point in their life. So it has a big impact because a lot of people are affected. The other thing that’s really important to understand about skin cancer is that it’s actually preventable,” Lui said. The risk factors for skin cancer are known. “The sun gives us these rays that, you know, make us feel good or bathe us in warmth and, you know, light and everything. But there are also these invisible rays from the sun, the ultraviolet rays that actually have enough energy in those rays to get into your skin, get absorbed and actually damage your skin’s DNA molecules,” Lui said.
