Police say a police officer patrolling near Main Street and Terminal Avenue late Tuesday tried to stop the man’s vehicle. The driver tried to flee and hit several other cars, causing them to fall on the sidewalks, before his vehicle crashed into a building near Quebec Street and East Second Avenue. The chase continued on foot as the man tried to flee the scene, according to a statement. A police dog unit was sent to the suspect and he was arrested shortly after the accident.

Police say the man, a 29-year-old Surrey resident, is wanted on 10 warrants across Canada, including charges related to firearms and drug trafficking. At least three other people had to be taken to hospital after their vehicles were hit by the driver who escaped, police said. Police say a 34-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman suffered head injuries and possible internal injuries when the Mercedes was hit heading east. A 20-year-old woman riding in another car was hit and injured less seriously. The suspect was also injured and taken to hospital for treatment after his arrest by the K9 police unit. The Office of Independent Investigations of K.A. has been informed about the injuries of the suspect. The Vancouver Police Department says the man faces additional charges in connection with the accident, including dangerous driving and fleeing police.
