Georgia Gov. Brian Campbell, a Republican, signed a bill Tuesday that removes gun owners’ licenses and background checks to carry firearms in public, drawing high praise from gun owners in the state. Along with supporters outside the Gable Sporting Goods in Douglasville on Tuesday, the Republican governor celebrated the new law, saying it would ensure citizens’ rights are protected in public, Atlanta’s Fox 5 reported. Critics were quick to dismiss both new laws. “This legislation would potentially allow individuals with a criminal record who buy firearms through private selling to legally carry a hidden, loaded firearm in our communities,” said State Assemblywoman Kimberly Alexander, a Democrat, according to the report.
