Mr Hollinrake, Member of Parliament for Thirsk and Malton, said: “I have been assured that the time limit for asylum seekers to remain in the area will be 180 days ensure that waiting for decisions is not unduly delayed. “It is vital that those undergoing treatment are housed in suitable and appropriate environments, with leisure facilities and social facilities so that these individuals can live a life as normal as possible.” Others in the village were more enthusiastic about the prospect. Jane Smith, 65, who has lived in the village for 13 years, said: “(The houses) should be filled with anyone who needs them and we are a wonderful friendly village, so whoever comes, most of us will welcome it. “For most of us, it is a crime to have empty homes and we need to fill them as soon as possible.”
