How does Somerset escape this rift in their universe? It will be a long, long season .. The head falls on the neck, the neck falls on the shoulders: 49-5. Three for Sam Cook, two for Mark Steketee.

“Tanya”, John Burton, Hello! “Because 4 teams are saying goodbye during this round of games, I had assumed that the meaning of dividing the divisions into even numbers was that everything could be played. Do I miss any real reason to say goodbye?” There is no reason other than that each team plays six games in the first seven weeks – so we think everyone has a week off. The first seven rounds take place Thursday-Sunday in consecutive weeks. Five more rounds follow in June and July before the final in September. Each county plays 14 Championship games, with seven home and seven away games. So in Div Two, everything plays everything, but in Div One .. no.

Happy Birthday Durham! Thirty years of first class prefecture today. Last week’s undefeated captain Alex Lees is not playing today, he is whispering about injury. The way we were: Larkins and Botham go out for Durham in 1992. Photo: Mirrorpix / Getty Images

Gary Naylor writes: Gary Naylor (@ garynaylor999) Hi @tjaldred. Here in the sun-drenched Oval, a decent crowd applauds every thick outer end that goes for four, as they did in the Lord’s last week. Is this now an accepted etiquette? April 14, 2022 Wow, I count in the sun, with bank holidays ahead, people are happy to applaud most things! As for whether people become less insightful – I do not know. Does it matter do you think? Marcus Harris caresses Harris Rauf’s square for four – a beautiful shot – and it fell from Harry Duke to the next ball. Glucks 29-0.

Okay, time for a coffee and a sniff around the Division One venue: Here in Gloucestershire, things are slow: Fisher and Thompson hold it tight, four slips, a good dispersion in the cheap seats. And here comes Harris Rauf. Lancashire lost its first net of the day, not even the season. Balderson left for 7, while Wells has broken six blocks in his 30s – one morning with three Weetabix. Somerset’s top line is proving to be as fragile as ever: 25-2, Green and Rensow are gone. As Surrey rides to second gear, Burns and Patel swap roles in Edgbaston: Burns at full speed and Patel steady.

“How on earth can it be fair for England to abandon Anderson for the West Indies test and exclude Lancashire from using him, but without guaranteeing him a place in the next test?” asks Stephen Herzenberg. “They are preventing Anderson from appearing at the ECB decimating Kent.” Hi Stephen, As far as I know, Anderson and Broad set their own schedules in conjunction with physios etc. with the aim – as in other years – to reach the best form for the first test. Whether they will play or not is another matter …

Anya Shrubsole is retiring
A legend leaves her hat: Shrubsole, who won two World Cups with England – the iconic player of that fantastic late-night match at Lord’s in 2017, winning 6-46 – included amateur and professional play. She started her domestic career for Somerset before playing in 173 England games in all formations, winning the Ashes twice and claiming 227 wickets. It finishes fourth on the list of English ODI racing games and bows down as England’s current top IT20. She became the first woman to appear in front of the Wisden, in 2018, and kept her golden hand until the end, taking two key dips in the recent World Cup semifinal against South Africa. He will continue to play home cricket. “I feel very privileged to have been able to represent my country for the last 14 years,” Shrubsole said. “Engaging in women’s cricket at a time of such growth was an honor, but it became clear to me that it was moving faster than I could keep up, so it was time to move on. “In my wildest dreams I never thought I would be lucky enough to play for England for so long, I would be happy with a game. There have been many ups and downs along the way, but it was worth it to be able to lift the ICC Women’s World Cup at Lord’s in 2017. “There were so many people who supported me along the way and I want to thank them all for everything they have done, but most of all I could not do it without the full support of my family. He was with me every step of the way and I just could not do it without them. “ This winning feeling: Shrubsole gets the final chance to win the World Cup for England in 2017.
